Report from the Credentials Committee, Conclusion

Thank you. Let me just add my thanks for the opportunity to serve as a Co-Chair of the Credentials Committee.

I want to take a moment to talk about hope and determination, something that Democrats can never lose sight of. We hope for a better future for the generations that will follow us, and we are determined to protect our environment and work for oil independence. We hope that our elderly will continue to have the support of Social Security and are determined to protect Social Security. We hope for a return of international respect and are determined to show the world what America once was and can be again.

These are only a few of the principles that the Democratic Party has stood for during the years. We continue to believe that every American, whatever their background, whatever the differences in religion, gender, sexual orientation or ethnicity has the right to a good education, a job with good wages, quality and affordable health care and a secure retirement.

When we elect Senator Obama, future generations will be able to say that we, the 2008 Democratic National Convention, hoped and were determined to provide the best future possible for them. We have been the party of great economic prosperity. The Democratic Party can bring the American dream back to everyday Americans who face foreclosures and job losses.

This won’t always be an easy path for us, but on November 4, 2008, the Democratic Party will stand united and stronger than ever when we elect Senator Barack Obama for the office of President of the United States.

Mr. Chairman, on behalf of the other Credential Committee officers and committee members, I move adoption of the Credentials Committee report.
