Report from the Credentials Committee, part 1

Thank you Mr. Chairman. I am Eliseo Roques-Arroyo from the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. La Isla Del Encanto con Barack Obama.

I am honored to serve as a Co-Chair of the Convention Credentials Committee and proud to have the opportunity to work with such an amazing group of fellow Democrats to help elect Senator Barack Obama as the next President of the United States! El próximo presidente de Los Estados Unidos, si se puede.

Today I, along with my colleagues and fellow chairs, am happy to give our full support and endorsement to the report of the Credentials Committee. As we begin our convention, let me just take a moment to remind us why we are here and why all of this matters. Over the course of the past eight years, we have seen the price of food and gas rise, our economy weaken and jobs shipped overseas, families struggle without health care, and skyrocketing higher education costs.

Today, there is only one person who can bring the change our country needs, Senator Barack Obama. We are committed to electing him as our next president. So we're here in Denver to win back the White House. We're here in Denver to elect stronger Democratic majorities to the House and Senate.

And we're here in Denver to make sure that working families across America wake up on November 5 knowing that their voices have been heard. And that we've changed the direction of our nation and renewed American leadership on the world stage.

On January 20, 2009, we will establish important priorities that will revive the American dream for a new era. We will work to provide immediate relief to working families. And to those who have lost their jobs or are in danger of losing their homes. Unemployment continues to rise. It is important to invest in our infrastructure and green technology to generate good, high-paying jobs. We will invest in the American education system, because every American has a right to a world-class education.

Across the country we know it's time for change, and we know we need it soon. I am positive that come November, we will elect Barack Obama as the next President of the United States.

Muchas gracias y buenas tardes.

And now it is my great honor to introduce James RooseveltRoosevelt, Jr. from the great state of Massachusetts.
