Nov 6 2008, 9:30 AM EST | Post edited: Nov 6 2008, 9:30 AM EST
I am NOT tring to be funny or a smart mouth! I have been listening to all the hype on Obama being the 1st African American Which is a HUGE 1st BUT How did he decide that he was African American isnt he as much white as Black? I hate that people are using his race to be any reason good or bad for being elected.
I do not want anyone to be I am rasist because I an NOT I am a democrat and very hopeful to see change in our government. Thanks any comments are welcome.

It's just the choice of words I guess.

Peoeple have stated along with this that he's "The son of a black man." It's just the way you look at it. :)

Traditionally, going back to the start of the US and the institution of slavery, the "one drop" rule was in effect. That meant that if you had even "one drop" of African-American blood in your veins (or rather as part of your heritage), you were considered black and could be treated (or rather, completely disenfranchised) as such. It's still part of our culture, but happily less so than it once was.

Well, you are correct but very little of that applies to Barack. He is not the descendant of slaves who were kidnapped from Africa, his ancestors were never mistreated by white racists as far as I know. Barack himself has said that the various faults and rifts that divide the U.S.A. should be healed.

In that context he has never overemphasized one part of his ancestry over another. In fact, judging from his upbringing one could claim that he held his mother and maternal grandmother that died recently in more esteem than his Kenyan father who abandoned him as a child.

Therefore, Baracks' African roots were exaggerated by the press because he was the first presidential candidate who had African roots, and not by Barack himself. He has never displayed the miserly attitude of the likes of Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton that would doom his presidential campaign - because he did never experience the past hardships of a segregated U.S.America, after all.

Because you just posted this " And they don't dislike the Republicans just because they are enemies. The Europeans - at least - dislike the Republicans because they are idiots......
